Our History
What’s in a name? Quite a bit in our case…
Our firm name finds its history all the way back to Captain Vancouver and his exploration in the late 1790’s. Dr. Archibald Menzies, the ship’s botanist and surgeon, named many of the flora along the BC Coast. One such tree he named is the Arbutus Tree. It has a distinctive peeling red papery bark and is found near the craggy ocean shores. The botanical name of the Arbutus tree is “Arbutus Menziesii”. Arbutus Financial reflects both our West Coast roots and our founder Neil Menzies. Although both Neil and Archibald trace their roots to the same area of Scotland, there appears to be no familial connection.
Our Community
Our desire to cultivate relationships for success carries over into our local community. From cancer care/research to children’s literacy, Arbutus Financial supports many positive programs as a symbol of our commitment to planting seeds for a better community.
Arbutus Financial supports the following organizations:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island
Children’s Hearing & Speech Centre of BC
Immigrant Services Society of BC
Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes Food Bank
Our PACT
Our successful approach to financial planning stems from our ability to understand our clients well. We pledge four key commitments to our clients that we feel are integral to building strong, productive relationships. Think of them as our PACT with you.
